Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life

Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life: Routine Over Resolution
I have always been a firm believer of routine over resolution. If you want your life to change, you can’t keep doing the same thing that you have always done and expect change to happen just by setting a resolution or goal. A goal without a plan and change in routine is just a wish. For example, if your goal was to get healthier, there would be to be changes made to your routine to make that happen. The same goes for simple living.
Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life: Need A Routine Reset?

Do you need some helpful routine resets to simplify your life? An efficient and decluttered routine is a key component to simplifying your life. First, write down your current daily and weekly routines. Next, write down what your ideal routine would look like if you only included the things that brought you happiness. Do you see anything in your current routine that no longer serves you or that you no longer enjoy? Keep reading for some helpful routine resets that will bring your current routine more in line with your ideal routine.
Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life: Remove Guilt Obligation

Remove Guilt Obligations on your list that you should have said no to but didn’t. If the obligation will be finished soon, finish it. If it is an ongoing obligation that doesn’t bring you happiness, take a deep breath and call the person that you committed to and explain that you are no longer able to take on that particular responsibility. You will thank yourself later.
Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life: Delegate

Delegate those things that can be passed to family members to share the load. This is one of my favorite helpful routine resets for a simplified life because it can be one of the fastest. Younger children love to help so let them. They can load the dishwasher, set and clear the table, and feed the animals. You might be surprised to find that your husband is willing to give you a hand as well. My husband actually told me to give him a list of things that I needed done and he would take care of it. I just assumed that he didn’t have time to help me. Sometimes your help is right under your nose.
Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life: Multitasking Activities

Multitasking Activities is an important ingredient needed to simplify your routine to save time and effort. For example, folding the laundry in the dryer while another load is washing just makes since. So when your laundry is finished washing, it can be put right in the dryer. Washing the dishes from prepping dinner while the food is cooking saves you from having to do them after you are done with dinner and want to rest. Get the kids to pop the dirty plates and silverware in the dishwasher and you are done. I have even been known to declutter the utensil drawer while I was waiting for dinner to finish.
Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life: Combine Errands

Combine Errands when planning your routine for the week. For example, you might drop the dry cleaning off on your way to the grocery store because it is on the way. You might also want to reassign errands to family members that are going in the direction of that errand. There is so much time and gas to save by grouping your errands together.
Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life: Limit Your To Do List

Limit Your To Do List. If you are like I used to be, your to do list is a mile long and if you are honest with yourself, the list is just totally unrealistic for any human being to tackle. Simplify your life by resetting your routine to a max of the 3 most important items per day on your list. By limiting that list, you can concentrate on those important things without worrying about all of the other things that need to be done. I use these note pads from dollar tree for my To Do List.
I have another list that I make when I brain dump that has all of the other things that I would like to get done. I pull from that list in order of importance if I get finished with my first 3 items. This system has helped my stress levels by setting realistic goals for myself that I can actually accomplish.
Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life: Insert Joy & Happiness

Insert Joy and Happiness to your routine. By now your daily and weekly routines should only include things that must be done like feeding the kids and critters, laundry and house cleaning with a sprinkle of decluttering. Now is the time to replace those items that you removed with things that bring you joy, happiness, and that align with your values. Some examples are:
- Time For Yourself
- Friends and Family
- Get More Exercise
- Activities That Make You Happy
- Rest
Helpful Routine Resets For A Simplified Life: Give Yourself Grace

Give Yourself Grace with your new routines. Your routine should be more efficient and decluttered but remember those baby steps. Don’t expect perfection right out of the gate. Your routines will need to be tweaked as your needs change. If something just isn’t working, change it. If you are having trouble sticking to something in your routine that you don’t enjoy but is good for you, try to pair it with something that you do enjoy like walking on the treadmill while you watch your favorite TV show or walking with your best friend.
