You can live with joy and happiness every day. Life is too short to be miserable and unhappy. Joy and happiness are not found in the perfect circumstance, car, or job. One of the most important components to live with joy and happiness is to retrain your brain to focus on the positive things in life instead of the negative. This is sometimes easier said than done, especially when life is happening. With baby steps you can redirect your thinking. Here are some helpful tips:

Begin each day by Counting Your Blessings as soon as your eyes pop open. It is very hard to think negatively when you are busy counting the ways that God has blessed you. Using a journal to write down your blessings will allow you to go back to them if you need to refocus your thoughts. You might also think about one thing that you could to today to bless someone. Give someone a smile, hold the door for them, or let them out in traffic.

Redirect Negative Thoughts with positive ones. Each time you find your thoughts have been hijacked by a negative thought, immediately replace it with a positive thought. An example would be when you are having negative thoughts about the traffic you have to drive in everyday to work. Instead, focus on the fact that you do have a car to drive and a job to go to. Having a gratitude attitude will change your life.

End each day by finding at least one positive thing that happened that day. Even on the worst day, you can scrape up one good thing. Don’t forget that wonderful coffee you might have had this morning. Journaling can be very helpful for this too. Write those things in your journal so that you can remind yourself of those blessings as well.

For me, simple living is a way of life that means prioritizing my life by getting rid of all of the things in my home and life that don’t matter to make room for the things that do by decluttering and organizing your home and life. Live with Joy and Happiness every day. The little things.
Enjoy The Little Things

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, joy and happiness are not found in the perfect circumstance, car, or job. It is not even found in the right person. You are the only one that can control the joy and happiness within you. True joy and happiness can be found in the little things in life. It’s in the things that you can’t buy, and the little things that you miss if you are too busy to notice. The smell of your new baby, the look on your spouse’s face when you proposed, the smell of your first cup of morning coffee, or hanging out with your best friend.

Just in case you would like more examples, here are a few more:

  • Watching The Sun Rise or Set
  • Hanging Out With Your Kids
  • Sneaking Away With Your Honey
  • The Smell Of Fresh Baked Cookies
  • Watching your Kids Open Their Christmas Presents
  • The Smell of Fresh Laundry
  • Seeing Your Fur Baby’s Face When You Get Home From Work
  • Calling an old friend and talking for hours
  • Finding that thing that your grandparents gave you as a child.

Live With Joy and Happiness: Take Time For Yourself

Take Time For Yourself

So many people are tired and mentally exhausted because they don’t take time each day to recharge their own batteries. Taking time for yourself each day reduces stress, anxiety, and helps to unwind from the day. It also improves motivation and productivity. Spending time alone with yourself also allows you time to reflect on what you need and how you feel. While it is not realistic to go to the spa every day, here are some things that you can do every day to recharge so that you can live with joy and happiness.

Schedule Time Each Day to recharge or it just won’t get done. It’s like that vacation that you have been wanting to take but haven’t gotten around to. If you don’t put it on your calendar, it probably won’t get done. Even 30 minutes would do the trick.

Practicing Mindfulness is a great use of your downtime, no matter how little you have. Close your eyes and take a couple of slow deep breaths. Try not to think about anything except your breathing. Let your mind relax. This requires practice if you have trouble shutting off your thoughts but don’t give up. It is so worth it.

Enjoy Your Coffee or Tea With A Good Book. Reading is the most inexpensive way to travel anywhere in the world. From France to Aruba, the choices are limitless. You can even go back in time. Reading allows your imagination to take you away from today’s troubles and take you to your favorite destinations. I encourage you to go to your local library to check out a few books today. It is one of my favorite things to do.

Go For A Walk Outside to increase your energy and your spirits. There is just something about taking an early morning walk. It is just so quiet and peaceful. The sounds of birds singing their good mornings, squirrels playing with each other, and the crunch of leaves or rocks on the ground as you walk. It is unbelievably relaxing. If it is raining, you could also sit on your back porch in the morning with your morning coffee or tea. This is also a very relaxing and peaceful way to start the day.

Live With Joy and Happiness: Be A Blessing To Others

Be A Blessing To Others

I think that the biggest secret to living with joy and happiness every day is to be a blessing to others. Blessings come in many different forms. Many people think that if they don’t do something big to help others, it doesn’t matter. The big blessings are wonderful. But most of the time, it’s the little things that matter most. Here are some suggestions to inspire you:

  • Hold the door for someone.
  • Give someone an encouraging smile.
  • Take your elderly neighbor to lunch or the doctor.
  • Put your neighbor’s trash can back on trash day.
  • Mow your neighbor’s grass while they are on vacation. Mine really loved that one.
  • Pay for the person behind you at Mcdonalds.
  • Give that single mom or dad you know a gift card for groceries or gas.
  • Babysit that single parent’s kids for a few hours so they can have some me time.
  • Let someone out in traffic.
  • Call someone to let them know that you have been thinking about them.

You deserve to live with joy and happiness every day. Don’t start tomorrow, start today!
