Christmas was right around the corner. There were so many things to get done, but at the top of my list for the day were the decorations. So I climbed into the attic to begin my yearly journey, hauling big boxes that were overflowing with decorations back down the stairs without breaking my neck. I had to pick and sort through all of the Christmas boxes to find the ones that I needed. There was just so much stuff. My snowman collection was taking over.

As I was grabbing the last box that I needed, I had an overwhelming desire to just stop what I was doing and get rid of some of the decorations that I have not used in years. It wasn’t the most convenient time to sort through all of that stuff, but I just felt like I needed to do it now. After about an hour, I had six boxes to find a home for. I immediately thought about a preacher’s wife where my mom goes to church. She said that she would love to have them and asked if she could share the decorations with her daughters. I was so excited to bless two people instead of just one.

As it turns out, her daughter had something happen to her that caused her to lose everything that she had. There is so much joy in helping your friends and neighbors with the little things that make their life easier. The Christmas decorations that I no longer needed was exactly what she did need and became a gift of Christmas blessings to a wonderful person. Giving gifts of Christmas blessings can be just as easy as looking around you. I once saw a young mother in a grocery store tell her 10-year-old that she had to put a package of meat back because she couldn’t afford it. I couldn’t believe my ears. She only had one can of ravioli in her hand. I introduced myself and asked she would allow me to buy food for her and her daughter. She just cried so hard as she hugged me. The fact that I was able to share some of what God had given to me with her and her daughter at just the right time felt incredible and gave me overwhelming joy and happiness.
